If Matthew 6:33 is about the position of our orbit (the “where”), then Matthew 5:6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled” is about the momentum (the “how fast”).
The Physics of Holy Appetite
1. Hunger as “Gravitational Potential”
In physics, potential energy is the energy stored in an object because of its position relative to a force. The further a rubber band is stretched, the more “potential” it has to snap back. Hunger and thirst are internal “stretches.” They are the soul recognizing its distance from the Center and feeling the tension to return.
We often think of hunger as a “lack,” but in the Beatitudes, Jesus describes it as a blessing. Why? Because in spiritual physics, the “void” inside you is the very thing that the Kingdom’s gravity acts upon. Without that “void” (hunger), you have no reason to move toward the Center.
2. Righteousness as “Vector Alignment”
Yesterday I mentioned that righteousness is alignment. In physics, a vector is a quantity that has both magnitude (how much) and direction (where). You can be very “hungry” for something, but if your vector is pointing toward the world, you’ll just drift faster into the void.
Seeking righteousness is like aligning your Vector of Desire. When your “hunger” (magnitude) is pointed toward “Righteousness” (direction), you achieve a perfect trajectory. You aren’t just drifting; you are moving with purpose toward the source of Life.
3. “For They Shall Be Filled” (The Sink and the Source)
In fluid dynamics, a “sink” is a point where a fluid is being pulled in. Nature abhors a vacuum. If there is an empty space, the surrounding pressure will work to fill it instantly. If we create a “vacuum” in our hearts by hungering for God, the pressure of His Spirit (the “Living Water”) has no choice but to rush in and fill it.
You don’t have to “pump” the water in; you just must create the space. The “filling” isn’t something you do; it’s the natural physical result of being correctly aligned with the Source.
“The Law of the Holy Vacuum.”
Most people try to fill their own hunger. But Jesus says the secret is to stay hungry for the right thing. When you align your ‘thirst’ with His righteousness, the universe’s spiritual physics takes over. You don’t just find the water; the Water finds you.
Tomorrow we’ll go back to view centrifugal force in a different way.
