“It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings to search out a thing.” — Proverbs 25:2

“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light…” — 1 Peter 2:9

Day 2: The Royal Quest to Search Out the Word

Scripture reveals a beautiful, mysterious dynamic between the Creator and His children: God loves to conceal things, not to hide them from us, but to hide them for us. As Charlie Walker notes, the Bible explicitly tells us that we are a royal priesthood—meaning that as believers, we carry a kingly identity. Because we are royalty in His kingdom, it is our unique privilege and glory to dive deep into the Word and search out the treasures He has tucked away.

Too often, we treat the Bible like a stagnant text rather than a living, breathing landscape of discovery. The renowned nineteenth-century preacher, Charles Spurgeon, once emphasized the depth required in our approach to Scripture:

“Backen your pace a little, and meditate more. We swallow our food whole, and so do not digest it. We read too fast, and we think too little. God’s Word is like a gold mine; you must dig deep if you want the nuggets.”

The truth is, God is not silent, nor is He distant. He actually desires to speak to you far more than you realize or even desire to hear from Him. He is a gracious Father who respects your free will, never forcing Himself upon you. But if you intentionally open your heart, you will find that He speaks in an abundance of ways—in the stillness of the night seasons, through everyday circumstances, and directly through the pages of His Word.

When we slow down, pull out a notepad, pray, and genuinely listen in our spirit, the Holy Spirit begins to communicate real, life-altering truth. As the great Christian thinker and apologist C.S. Lewis wisely noted about our communication with God:

“We must lay before Him what is in us, not what ought to be in us. And we must listen for what He has to say, not what we think He should say.”

We must stop skimming the surface of our faith. It is time to embrace our kingly heritage, open our spiritual ears, and actively pursue the voice of the One who eagerly waits to reveal the secrets of His heart to us.

Daily Challenge

Set aside 15 to 20 minutes today in a quiet space with a notebook or journal. Silence your digital distractions, read a passage of Scripture, and then ask the Lord a direct question. Sit quietly, listen intently to your inner spirit, and write down the thoughts, scriptures, or impressions that follow. Approach it not as a chore, but as a royal treasure hunt.

O Lord God Almighty,

You are the Sovereign King who reigns over all creation yet intimately numbers the very hairs on my head. I stand in awe of the depth of Your wisdom and the mystery of Your ways. Thank You for creating a divine narrative where You conceal profound truths, inviting me into the majestic privilege of searching them out alongside You. Forgive me for the days I treat Your Word casually, for the times I rush through Scripture simply to check a box, and for failing to recognize the royal identity You have bestowed upon me as a child of the King.

Holy Spirit, awaken a relentless spiritual hunger within me. I open my heart, my mind, and my spirit to You right now, asking that You teach me how to tune out the persistent static of this world so I can clearly discern Your voice. Whether You choose to speak in the quiet of the night, through the unfolding of daily circumstances, or via the living text of the Logos, give me ears that hear and a heart that immediately obeys.

Break off any spirit of apathy or spiritual deafness that has kept me operating like a servant in bondage rather than a royal heir to Your promises. I declare today that I will no longer just sit on the sidelines of my faith. I choose to dig deep into the goldmine of Your truth, expecting to be rewired and transformed by the insights You reveal. Thank You for Your profound desire to communicate with me. Guide my study, speak to my heart, and let Your voice be the anchor of my soul.

In the mighty and majestic name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.
