“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us…” Ephesians 3:20
Day 1: The God Who Stays
In the message, Charlie Walker shares a profound truth for anyone navigating a season of isolation or distress. He speaks directly to the heavy hearts in the room, delivering a message tailored specifically for the fractured spaces we try so hard to hide from the world:
“If you came here tonight feeling broken, if no one really knows your pain, if you feel everyone has left you and you’re standing alone, I want to remind you that Jesus stayed. He still knows your name. He still holds your heart. No matter what you did, you were never lost. Too lost. You were never too far gone. He stayed.”
When circumstances disintegrate or human relationships fail, our immediate instinct is often to feel entirely forgotten. We look at our flaws, our past missteps, and the magnitude of our current struggles, assuming that God has distanced Himself from our mess. Yet, the ultimate miracle of grace is that Jesus does not operate the way the world does. As the old hymn echoed at the start of the message reminds us, He looks entirely beyond our faults and focuses directly on our deepest needs. His love is not a fleeting emotion; it is steady, foundational, and eternal.
When you find yourself trapped in a dark, seemingly endless season, it is vital to remember who is in control. The message incorporates a powerful reminder from the legendary faith veteran Corrie ten Boom:
“When a train goes through a tunnel and it gets dark, you don’t throw away the ticket and jump off. You sit still and trust the engineer.”
If you are in a midnight season right now, do not panic, and do not jump off the train. The darkness does not catch God off guard, nor does it diminish His capacity to rescue you. He is the Great Engineer. He is right there in the dark tunnel with you, holding your heart, knowing your name, and quietly working out a plan that is exceedingly and abundantly beyond anything you could ever ask, think, or imagine.
Reflective Questions
- What specific areas of brokenness or hidden pain are you currently carrying that you feel no one else truly understands?
- In what ways have your own faults or mistakes caused you to feel “too far gone” or unworthy of God’s presence?
- What practical step can you take today to stop trying to fix your situation in your own strength and instead “sit still” and trust the Engineer?
Life Application
- Surrender the Fractured Pieces: Set aside five minutes of absolute silence today. Verbally name the hurts, the loneliness, or the failures you are tracking, and consciously hand them over to Jesus, thanking Him that He has stayed by your side through it all.
- Meditate on Your True Value: Whenever a thought of self-condemnation rises up today, actively reject it by reminding yourself of Ephesians 3:20. Affirm out loud that God’s power is working within you, regardless of how weak you feel on the outside.
- Extend Grace to Another: Think of someone in your immediate circle who might be standing alone or feeling broken. Reach out to them with a simple text, call, or word of encouragement, serving as a tangible reminder that they are not forgotten.
Heavenly Father,
I thank You that You are the God who stays. When the world feels overwhelming, when relationships fracture, and when I am left standing alone in my pain, Your presence remains my absolute anchor. Forgive me for the times I have treated You like a distant observer rather than the steady, eternal Keeper of my heart.
Lord, I ask that You look past my many faults, my failures, and my anxieties today, and that You fill the deepest spaces of my need. When the journey takes me through dark tunnels where I cannot see the light, grant me the supernatural grace to sit still and completely trust You, my Engineer. I firmly believe that I am never too lost, never too damaged, and never too far gone to be reached by Your love.
Pour out Your Holy Spirit within me today. Do a work in my life that is exceedingly, abundantly above anything I could ever ask, dream, or think. Heal my brokenness, restore my joy, and let Your steady presence make me dangerous to the kingdom of darkness.
I anchor my soul in the matchless and powerful name of Jesus. Amen.
