“If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14

Day 5: Wake Up, Repent, and Pray

In the message, Charlie Walker presents a direct, non-condemning roadmap to counteract the spiritual vacuum and lack of glory visible in the modern church landscape. This urgent turnaround strategy requires a definitive, threefold response from every true believer: wake up, repent, and pray.

First, we are called to shake off our collective spiritual slumber. Quoting Romans 13:11, the sermon declares that “now it is high time to wake out of sleep.” Charlie warns that our surrounding culture has radically shifted from the attitudes of past decades, creating a totally different, ungodly environment where passive indifference is no longer an option. Citing Joel 3:9, he encourages the body of Christ to “prepare for war” and “wake up the mighty men,” reminding us that we are locked in intense spiritual warfare every single week whether we choose to acknowledge it or not.

Second, this awakening must be accompanied by a profound lifestyle of personal repentance. Grounded in the sobering words of Luke 13:3, Charlie reminds us that “unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.” He strips away any religious pretense by noting that all people are sinners who fall short of the glory of God, even admitting that he must personally repent of things almost every single day. God does not measure or categorize our sins; rather, he calls us to a uniform standard of continuous humility.

Finally, we must build a foundational culture of prayer. To underline this critical necessity, he quotes the solemn warning of Stacy Campbell:

“I believe that unless we build God’s house as a house of prayer, the church will not have the spiritual strength to overcome the increasing shakings we’re about to endure. Rather, we will be like many of the disciples in Jesus Day who withdrew and followed him no more.”

True prayer, however, requires a complete shift in our standard posture. Charlie challenges us to stop constantly chasing God’s “giving hand”—bombarding Him with transactional requests like “Lord give me this, Lord help me with this”—and instead passionately seek His face in absolute sincerity and truth.

Reflective Questions

  1. When you examine your daily awareness of the world around you, are you living spiritually awake to the reality of ongoing warfare, or have you quietly nodded off to sleep?
  2. Does your current prayer life consist primarily of a transactional “shopping list” for God’s giving hand, or are you intentionally pursuing His face?
  3. Knowing that all people have fallen short of God’s glory, what hidden areas of your heart require a commitment to daily, uncompromised repentance?

Life Application

  • Awake to Spiritual Conflict: Wake up each morning consciously acknowledging that you are a warrior placed in the middle of an active spiritual warfare environment. Refuse to live as a passive bystander in a culture that has turned away from God’s truth.
  • Seek His Face, Not His Hand: Alter your standard prayer routine today by intentionally setting aside all personal, transactional requests. Dedicate your entire prayer time exclusively to worshiping God, seeking His presence, and corporate intercession.
  • Commit to Honest Repentance: Spend quiet moments exploring your own heart today to honestly confess your sins to the Lord. Move past surface-level remorse into a sincere, daily pattern of turning away from compromise and turning back toward righteousness.

Heavenly Father,

I hear Your urgent trumpet call today to wake up out of my spiritual slumber. Forgive me for walking through this world as a spiritual pacifist, ignoring the severe spiritual warfare that rages all around me. Wake up the mighty warrior inside of my soul, and grant me the spiritual eyes to clearly discern the signs of the times in which we live.

Lord, I humble myself completely before You today, acknowledging that I am a sinner who continuously falls short of Your pristine glory. I repent of my sins and my wicked ways in absolute sincerity and truth. Teach me to seek Your beautiful face daily rather than merely treating You as a giving hand to satisfy my immediate comfort and desire.

Build my life, my home, and my church into a true house of prayer. Grant me the internal spiritual strength to endure the shakings of this current age without drawing back, compromising, or walking away from You. Hear from heaven today, forgive my sins, and heal my land as I recommit my entire existence to Your glory.

In the powerful, matchless name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.
