Day 7: Trusting the Engineer in the Dark

In the concluding moments of the message, Charlie Walker displayed raw vulnerability regarding his personal physical infirmities and the heavy spiritual weight he frequently experiences. Yet, despite enduring bizarre physical attacks and admitting that he does not feel well, his message pivots directly to a fierce, unyielding call for spiritual endurance. He reminds us that the difficult seasons we undergo are never without purpose. Sharing a prophetic journal entry from his own time spent waiting on the Lord, he describes the exhausting climb so many believers face:

“And there is a mountain you will cross. You feel like you’re going up a mountain. You can’t hardly get up the mountain. You’re exhausted. And he says, but then you will walk on a level path and you’ll run into my glory. My glory will cover you, and you will… be used by me because of this.”

When the spiritual terrain becomes steep and agonizing, the enemy’s primary objective is to induce panic, causing us to abandon our post or forfeit our calling. To ground our hearts against this temptation, Charlie shared an unforgettable quote from the legendary Holocaust survivor and faith veteran Corrie ten Boom:

“When a train goes through a tunnel and it gets dark, you don’t throw away the ticket and jump off. You sit still and trust the engineer.”

You may recognize it from the post for May 30, 2026. We learn through repetition, and we need to learn to trust God as the engineer of our lives. Charlie pairs this profound truth with a simple, urgent phrase from an email sent by a friend: “We can’t quit.” The current crisis or heavy pressure you are walking through is not a sign of God’s abandonment; rather, it is a sign of His intensive development. The message reassures us that we are simply in a structured training ground: “You’re in the hard part. You’re in… like you’re in boot camp right now, and you’re going to get into the good part after you get out of boot camp, so hang in there… If you don’t quit, you’re going to come out like a diamond.”

God is intentionally placing a distinct “stubbornness” within your spirit today—a holy resilience that will cause you to stand firm and refuse to bow to the dictates, compromises, and fears of this world. Keep plowing through the hard days, because the track you are on leads directly out of the tunnel and straight into His brilliant glory.

  • Sit Still in the Dark Tunnel: Whenever panic, fear, or a desire to quit grips your mind today, actively halt your thoughts, take a deep breath, and declare out loud: “I will sit still and trust the Engineer.” Refuse to make permanent exit decisions based on temporary environmental darkness.
  • Document His Whispers: Follow the Habakkuk-based pattern outlined in the sermon by taking a dedicated notebook, sitting quietly before the Lord, and writing down the thoughts of grace and encouragement He drops into your mind to warm your spirit like the morning sun.
  • Plow Through with Holy Stubbornness: Identify one specific obligation, ministry, or situation where you have felt blasted by authority or heavily criticized, and make a quality, unshakeable decision today that you will not quit. Remind yourself that this exact pressure is what produces a diamond.

Lord God,

I thank You that even when I am entirely exhausted and can barely manage another step up the mountain, Your grace is completely sufficient to sustain me. Forgive me for the times I have panicked in the dark tunnels of life, foolishly wanting to throw away my ticket and jump off the train simply because I could not see the light. I declare today that I fully trust You, my Great Engineer, to navigate the tracks of my life.

Father, I recognize that I am in a spiritual boot camp, and though it is not fun and it feels incredibly hard, I choose to hang in there and keep plowing through. Do not let me shrink back from the weight of discipline or authority; instead, use this intense pressure to refine my character until I come out shining like a brilliant diamond for Your kingdom. Place that holy, unyielding stubbornness inside my spirit that refuses to bow to the deceptive patterns of this world.

Warm the cold, tired places of my soul today with the light of Your steady, eternal love. I anchor my heart in the promise that this mountain will eventually level off, and I will run directly into the fullness of Your heavy glory. I live with my eyes fixed firmly on the eastern sky, crying out with the global church: Even so, come quickly, Lord Jesus.

In Your holy, matchless, and powerful name, I pray. Amen.
